Even in the driest of desert climates, it is still possible to have oily skin. This could make you more prone to clogged pores and acne breakouts. Having oily skin could also help keep your skin looking younger with few wrinkles. So, the trick is managing the oil and maintaining your skin’s natural moisture. Here are three tips for accomplishing just that.

1. Wash Your Face at Least Twice a Day

Washing your face every morning, before bed, and after exercising is important for controlling oil. However, resist the urge to scrub your skin, even when removing makeup. Scrubbing your face will irritate your skin and could cause it to produce more oil. If you feel like your face is greasy during the day, you can use blotting papers to absorb the excess oil.

2. Choose Your Skin Care Products Wisely

When choosing cleansers, moisturizers, and makeup go for products that are labeled “oil free” or “noncomedogenic.” Avoid cleansers that are oil-based or alcohol-based. Stick with gentle cleansers that will not dry out your skin and trigger more oil production. While it might seem a little counterintuitive, you still need to apply moisturizer daily to keep your skin hydrated when you have oily skin.

3. Always Wear Sunscreen Indoors and Outdoors

Oily skin will not protect your skin from sun damage that can cause age spots, wrinkles, or skin cancer. You should always wear sunscreen. However, you should use products that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide without oils or fragrances to prevent acne breakouts.
