Latisse

Thick, full lashes frame beautiful eyes. If you aren’t born with thick lashes, you can find them with Latisse for eyelashes.

What is Latisse?

Latisse was developed following Allergan’s, a manufacturer of eye care products, introduction of Lumigen – medicated eye drops to reduce ocular pressure in glaucoma patients. Lumigen’s active ingredient (bimatoprost) somehow created thicker, fuller lashes for patients taking the medicine. Although the precise mechanism is unknown, research suggests growth of eyelashes happens by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the hair growth phase. Lashes can grow longer, thicker, and darker because bimatoprost prolongs this growth phase.

Latisse is now available from your medspa The Skin Clinic to improve the appearance of eyelashes, especially for those suffering from hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes). It is available only by prescription, and should be used under a medical professional’s care.

How often do I have to take Latisse to see results?

Patients use the Latisse eye drops once a day, typically in the evening. Results are visible beginning at about four weeks, maximum results are visible by 16 weeks.

How much improvement can I see from Latisse, before and after treatment?

Individual results can vary, but one clinical study found that participants using Latisse experienced a 25 percent increase in lash length, a 108 percent increase in lash fullness, and an 18 percent increase in lash darkness.

Is Latisse safe to use?

Yes. It has been studied for safety and efficacy. Your medspa medical professional will discuss potential side effects or contraindications with you, just as they would for any other prescription medication.
