4 Little Things You Do Every Day That Cause Wrinkles

We spend billions on skin care products each year, yet the most effective ways to reduce or prevent wrinkles doesn’t cost a dime. We are talking about changing some of your daily routines and habits that aren’t good for your skin. Read on to know which wrinkle-causing habits you should avoid to keep your skin fresh and young.

1. Using Harsh Soaps

After a long day, you want to wash out all the grease, dirt, grime, and makeup by any means necessary. Soaps have high pH, so when you use them to get a squeaky clean feel, they strip the skin of natural proteins, oils, and lipids, leaving your skin barrier, dehydrated, compromised, and easily inflamed. This translates into a dry face with accentuated fine lines and dull appearance.

Stick to a gentle  cleanser like SkinMedica’s Facial Cleanser and don’t forget to use a moisturizer.

2.  Pulling and Tugging While Applying Makeup

We all stretch our lips to glide on our lipstick and tug our eyes when applying eye shadow or eyeliner. But everyday tugging or stretching can lead to broken blood vessels, puffiness, loss of skin elasticity, and wrinkles.

The next time you’re dolling up, try to move your face instead of your skin. And when taking off your makeup at night, do it gently and avoid rubbing or scraping your skin.

3. Depending on Your Car Windows for Sun Protection

Just because you’re in a vehicle does not mean that you’re protected from sun exposure and damage. Left-sided wrinkling and cancers are more common in the United States because the left part of your body gets more sun exposure as you’re driving. Car windows don’t block harmful UV rays.

To protect yourself, always apply sunscreen before your commute, especially if you’re a frequent driver. This can reduce the risk of developing skin cancer, fight wrinkles, and keep your skin smooth.

4. Sleeping on Your Face

You’ve probably never thought that your sleeping position could be affecting your skin. Individuals who sleep on their stomach may notice more puffiness because fluid does not drain so easily in this position. Sleeping on your face can cause fine lines and wrinkles as your skin is pressed against the pillow.

The simplest way to combat this problem is by sleeping on your back. But, if you must sleep with your face buried in your pillow, then you may want to purchase a silk pillowcase to reduce friction against your skin.
