4 Tips to Help Prevent Acne

Jul 11, 2018

Acne treatment doesn’t have to be a pain. The following tips will help you to combat and prevent pimples.

  1. Keep your face clean

Maintaining hygiene is incredibly important for preventing breakouts. Gently wash your face twice a day with warm water and a mild facial cleanser. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before you wash your face to eliminate potential bacterial threats. Also make sure your cleanser is well suited to your skin, as certain ingredients can be too harsh. A face wash with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may have additional acne-fighting benefits.

  1. Moisturize

Moisturizing your face after each cleansing is a key step because most acne cleansers and treatments contain ingredients that dry out the skin. Washing your face can strip away many of your skin’s necessary oils and moisture, either causing your skin to be far too dry and flaky to to produce an excessive amount of oil to compensate for the dryness. A gentle moisturizer will help your skin regain the moisture it has lost.

  1. Diet and exercise

Your diet and exercise habits are critical to effective acne treatment. Drink water (strive for that recommended eight glasses of water per day) to stay hydrated and keep your skin clear. A healthy diet that includes plenty of Vitamin A, Zinc, and Omega-3 fatty acids will go a long way in terms of skin care. Excessive alcohol and smoking can have severe detrimental effects upon the appearance of your skin, and regular exercise is shown to help lower stress (and consequently reduce acne). However, remember to shower and wash your face after exercise in order to make sure that the sweat does not cause further breakouts!

  1. Use minimal makeup

Avoid wearing foundation or powder makeups during a bad breakout. If you do choose to wear makeup, seek oil-free products that do not contain additional dyes and chemicals. Thoroughly wash off all makeup, as well as other cosmetics, such as sunscreen, at the end of each day.
