Microdermabrasion Q & A

Mar 10, 2015

MicrodermabrasionMicrodermabrasion is an extremely effective way to treat damaged skin. Are you trying to decide if this process is right for you? Separate fact from fiction about this treatment with answers to some of the more commonly asked questions.

How does microdermabrasion work?

The process involves the use of a specialized machine to manually exfoliate the surface of your skin. Other services during the hour-long treatment include extractions and the application of masks and enzymes to even out your skin tone and improve problem areas that are affected by dryness or rosacea.

What causes skin imperfections?

Some conditions are genetic while others are the natural results of aging. Most damage is caused by environmental factors such as pollution and sunlight.

Is the technique truly safe?

Microdermabrasion is often referred to as the “lunch hour” procedure because it’s safe and doesn’t require a lot of time for treatment or recovery. Our skin care specialist will evaluate your complexion to create a personalized treatment addressing your specific needs.

How often does the treatment need to be repeated?

You will receive maximum benefits when the treatment is performed at four- to six-week intervals. Part of the evaluation involves determining what time frame is best for your skin type.

When will I see results?

Your skin will be visibly smoother and healthier after just one visit. As you continue your course of treatment, you will see a decrease in oiliness along with a reduction in pore size and amount of fine lines and wrinkles.

Can I combine microdermabrasion with other skin care services?

Yes. We can supplement the treatment with dermaplaning, where a blade is gently brushed against your skin to exfoliate and remove any fine “peach fuzz”. You may also want to include waxing or a light chemical peel.
