Have you been considering laser hair removal? Although laser hair removal is one of our most popular treatments at North Scottsdale Laser & Skin Care Clinic, you may not know how to take care of your skin before and after treatment.
Caring for Skin Before and After Laser Hair Removal
Understand how laser hair removal works—Knowing how skin care treatment works is crucial to knowing what to do before and after treatment. The laser used to remove hair converts to heat as it passes through the skin, and the light from the laser can only target dark hair, inhibiting growth from the hair follicle.
Do not tan—The treatment only works if you have not been exposed to the sun. Your skin cannot be burnt or tanned, so fall and winter are the best times to start laser skin care treatments, and you will be able to have stubble-free skin by summer!
Your skin won’t be smooth immediately—After your first treatment, you may expect to instantly have silky smooth skin. However, it typically takes anywhere from five to six treatments to see results. Most of our patients come in about every four to six weeks to get optimal results.
Sunscreen is your best friend after treatment—During the treatment, your legs can feel as if they have been snapped by rubber bands, so your skin will be extra sensitive. Lather on the sunscreen because the sun will be able to penetrate your skin easier post-treatment.
Avoid waxing—After treatment, do not wax your skin. Feel free to shave, but waxing can actually hinder the progress you’re making with the laser treatments.
Take cooler showers—Since your skin will be more sensitive after treatment, for the first two days, you will want to take lukewarm or cold showers. Taking a hot shower may be painful on your sensitive skin.
Laser hair removal can free you from worrying about stubble and can grant you more free time in the mornings! To learn more about our laser treatments, or to schedule a free consultation with one of our skin care experts, call (480) 513-2888, or book your appointment online.
