Say Goodbye to Adult Acne

skin_careWhile we may miss the good old days of our youth, one thing that we may not miss is the acne that comes with our younger years. If you still suffer from acne, know that you’re not alone. The Journal of Women’s Health found that a quarter of women in their thirties and 12% of women in their forties still have acne. Adding just a few simple treatments to your skin care routine can improve the complexion and tone of your skin.

Skin Care and Acne Treatments

Change your diet—If you’ve been eating a lot of refined carbohydrates or a lot of dairy, there’s a chance that this may be causing your acne. Make sure to have a balanced diet so that your body can receive all of the nutrients it needs to function properly. Eating a balanced diet will also promote optimal health, which will, in turn, improve the look and feel of your skin.
Try tea tree oil—This natural oil is a mild fighter of acne outbreaks. Adding this product to your skin care routine may help to improve your skin’s complexion. You can typically find tea tree oil in a variety of soaps or body washes.
Acne Light Treatment (BLU-U)—This skin care treatment is the newest way to treat moderate recurrent acne in both adolescents and adults. The BLU-U is a non-laser visible light that targets the bacteria in the oil glands, eliminating a major player in the process of acne production. The treatment itself takes only about 30 minutes but needs to be repeated over the course of several treatments. Most patients have lasting results for as much as one to three years.
