This FDA-cleared treatment introduces a series of fine, sharp, sterile, acupuncture needles into the skin. The needles are attached to a Dermal Pen which is moved over the surface of the skin to create microscopic channels into the dermis. These minute punctures close over almost immediately as the channels are very small. This “damage” to the dermis encourages the body to produce more new collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin becomes thicker, plumper, and more youthful.
Although primarily used on the face, SkinPen microneedling can be used anywhere on the body, including stretch marks on thighs or abdomen, and generally on all skin types.
Yes, professional microneedling is safe when performed by a trained technician such as those at our medspa.
Most patients report very little discomfort during microneedling. A light topical numbing cream is often applied to reduce discomfort.
Almost none. You may notice your skin has some redness and swelling (comparable to a mild sunburn) for up to four days after a treatment. Some patients see these symptoms resolve in as little as 24 hours.
Concerns Addressed: Fine lines and wrinkles, scarring from acne or trauma, stretch marks, loose skin.
Ideal Treatment For: Persons seeking skin improvements that utilize the body’s own healing abilities.
How To Prepare For Treatment: An exam with one of our medspa professionals.
Treatment Length: Most SkinPen microneedling sessions last 45 minutes
Recovery Time: Patients report mild redness and swelling for up to four days after treatment.
Results Seen: Improvement can be seen after one treatment; however, because the process relies on natural healing to do its work, it can take up to four weeks to see complete results.
Retreatments Necessary: Your medspa professional can recommend a customized schedule for additional SkinPen microneedling treatment. Typically this involves two to five more treatments, spaced several months apart.
