botox-fillersYou’ve chosen to treat yourself with Botox, or with fillers such as Juvederm or Radiesse. You’ve breezed through your appointment and emerged ready to face the world. Now, it’s time to take care of yourself with while the Botox and fillers work their magic.

As with any medspa treatment, your new aesthetic enhancements come with a few things to avoid immediately after your appointment. Adhering to these best practices will ensure your healing is as smooth as your skin!

  • Don’t rub your face. Rubbing your face immediately after receiving Botox or fillers can irritate your injection sites. It can even cause bruising or prolonged redness. A hands-off approach is much better.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise. Reschedule your time at the gym. Exercise can prevent Botox and fillers from settling where you need them. Wait at least 24 hours before you exercise more than an easy stroll.
  • Stay upright. Avoid a a horizontal position for at least the first four hours. Try not to lean forward for a few hours, either, so your treatment doesn’t have to fight gravity.
  • Avoid substances that thin your blood. These include NSAID pain medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen sodium. They also include alcohol. Your medspa professional will let you know what pain medications are safe for after-treatment care.
  • Stay out of heat and sunshine. This is sometimes a challenge in the Scottsdale area, but it’s worth the effort. Heat and sun can exacerbate swelling and redness from your treatment. Stick to the cool shade for the first 24 hours.
  • Don’t wash your face. You may be tempted to give your face a good scrub, but it’s better to wait for six hours after you receive Botox or fillers. Leave off the moisturizing lotion as well.
