Can You Combine CoolSculpting with Other Treatments?
Whether you have fitness goals, health and beauty goals, or body-sculpting goals – or even a combination of all three – you probably have questions about how quickly you can expect them to be achieved.
Medspas such as The Skin Clinic of North Scottsdale offer an array of treatments, including options designed to rejuvenate your skin, stimulate collagen, reduce wrinkles, help you lose weight, and reduce post-exercise pain. Also available are fat-reduction treatments such as CoolSculpting. If you’re in need of further assistance in reaching your health goals, cosmetic surgeons in the Valley of the Sun offer liposuction and other interventions able to remove fat in larger amounts than CoolSculpting. With all of these choices, it can be hard to decide which procedures are best for you and how to best coordinate your CoolSculpting appointments with our other treatment offerings.
This post will take a deep dive into how CoolSculpting can fit into a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses all of your body goals. Let’s start by reviewing how CoolSculpting works and why to choose it as a fat-reduction treatment.
How CoolSculpting Reduces Fat
We have science to thank for CoolSculpting’s non-invasive superpower. Researchers studying the effect of frostbite on human tissue discovered fat cells are killed by freezing at a higher temperature than other types of tissue. This effect, known as cryolipolysis, can be achieved by placing a supercooled applicator over the targeted area for 30-60 minutes.
CoolSculpting, which utilizes cryolipolysis to remove pockets of fat, can be used on subcutaneous fat under the chin, on the upper arms, on the back, on the abdomen and flanks, as well as the hips and thighs and on fat stored in the crease between your buttocks and the back of your legs. Once the fat has been frozen, the body removes the dead cells gradually. It’s possible to remove up to 25 percent of fat cells in the treated area – permanently. Those fat cells will never grow back, although it remains possible to gain fat in other areas if you do not maintain healthy eating habits and exercise regularly.
Who Is A Good Candidate For CoolSculpting Fat-Reduction Treatments?
While CoolSculpting can be an effective fat-reduction treatment for people from many walks of life, it’s not for everyone. The procedure is designed to remove relatively small pockets of subcutaneous (under the skin) fat. If you are more than 25 pounds over your ideal weight, you’ll want to consider other options to achieve your body-sculpting goals (more on that later). It’s not appropriate to get CoolSculpting done if you have an active infection in the targeted fat-removal area or if you are pregnant.
You should also reconsider opting for CoolSculpting if:
- You have a hernia that needs to be repaired
- You do not tolerate cold well
- The part of the body to be targeted has loose skin, poor skin tone, nerve damage, or poor blood flow
- You have paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (an anemia that kills red blood cells when you’re exposed to cold)
- You have cold urticaria (you get hives when you’re too cold)
- You suffer from cryoglobulinemia, chilblains, pernio, or Raynaud’s phenomenon
On the other hand, if you’re generally healthy and are close to your goal weight, CoolSculpting can be a useful way to accentuate the impact of other efforts to tone and tighten your physique.

3 Things CoolSculpting Cannot Do
While CoolSculpting has many benefits as a fat-reduction treatment, it’s not a panacea. Specifically, there are three important things that it can’t do for you.
- Facilitate Weight Loss – As noted earlier, while CoolSculpting kills and removes fat, it does not help you lose weight. Most medspa patients see no change in weight after CoolSculpting, although they can see changes to their physique and the way their clothes fit within one or two weeks. CoolSculpting should be done once you are close to your goal weight.
- Increase Fitness – CoolSculpting also does not impact your fitness level or provide you with stronger or better toned muscles.
- Decrease Skin Laxity – Finally, while CoolSculpting can give you a slimmer silhouette, it does not help you if you have loose skin in the targeted fat-reduction area. If anything, it may actually create more skin laxity.
Pairing Fat-Reduction Treatments With Other Procedures
Because it is non-invasive and because recovery is rapid with CoolSculpting, it can be combined with most other types of health and beauty interventions, including those designed to remove fat. Our CoolSculpting specialist can discuss other treatments you’re interested in trying during your free initial consultation and provide a treatment plan and a timeline that takes all of your goals into account.
What’s The Best Order For Body-Sculpting Treatments?
If your goals center specifically on sculpting your body and building a more fit-looking you, there is a sequence you will want to follow to achieve lasting results. Each of the treatments described below builds upon the one that comes before it, ensuring that your investment in yourself pays dividends for years to come.

Weight Loss
If you are significantly heavier than your goal weight, you may choose to start your body-sculpting journey with weight-loss treatments. Beyond eating well (and moderately), you can visit our medspa to receive injections of Semaglutide, which provides dramatic benefits for those attempting to lose weight while also managing a condition such as Type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. We also recommend patients interested in weight loss consider the hCG program, which pairs a medically monitored diet with injections of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) to help lose 10-30 pounds.
Fat Reduction
Once you have reached a weight that’s less than 25 pounds from your target weight, you can start thinking about removing fat deposits located directly under the skin. CoolSculpting is designed to permanently remove 20-25 percent of fat cells in a given part of the body – forever!
If you’re more than 25 pounds above your goal weight, you may want to explore liposuction or a related surgical procedure to remove larger areas of subcutaneous fat. It’s important to remember fat-reduction treatments rarely help you lose weight – they are primarily to reduce the presence of fat cells.
Muscle Toning
Once you have slimmed your appearance in the areas you’ve targeted with CoolSculpting, it’s time to build some muscle. You can boost the efforts of your aerobic and strength workouts by visiting The Skin Clinic for CoolTone treatments. CoolTone uses Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) delivered through liquid-cool applicators to strengthen, tone, and firm the muscles of the belly, butt, and thighs. The MMS pulses penetrate the skin and any fat under the skin, so you benefit from the treatment even if you haven’t met your body goals yet!
Skin Laxity Reduction
Once you’ve lost weight and engaged in fat-reduction treatments such as CoolSculpting, you may notice the skin in some areas of your body is not as tight as it used to be. The Skin Clinic offers several treatments that can improve the appearance of sagging skin, including the triLift non-surgical facelift, the NuEra Tight cellulite treatment and the EndyMed Intensif skin-tightening procedure.
Pain Reduction And Workout Recovery
Once you’ve begun to see results from your body-sculpting treatments and other health initiatives, maintaining your fitness becomes paramount. You can recover from intense workouts – or address chronic pain issues that may make long workouts impossible – with our Whole Body Cryo Therapy treatment program. Patients are placed in a treatment chamber that exposes them to supercooled liquid nitrogen vapor which cools their body without actually touching the skin. In addition to stimulating endorphins and reducing pain, the treatment also burns a hefty 500 to 800 calories during each three-minute session!
When Will I See Results From CoolSculpting And Other Treatments?
Everyone wants to see positive changes from CoolSculpting and other body-sculpting treatments as soon as possible. The question of exactly when those changes will become apparent depends entirely on which treatment you’ve had, if you have had them in conjunction with any others, and your unique body and its state of fitness.
Under normal circumstances, you should start seeing results from CoolSculpting in about two weeks. Results from other services offered by The Skin Clinic can range from six to 10 weeks if you’re on our hCG protocol weight-loss plan to almost immediate muscle toning through Cool Tone and immediate pain relief from our Whole Body CryoTherapy program.
As far as what other people notice about your body shape, the changes from our fat-reduction treatments tend to be subtle enough that folks who see you every day may not take notice, but a friend you haven’t seen in a while may remark how much better you look!
More Questions? We Have The Answers.
At The Skin Clinic in North Scottsdale, we value your business and appreciate the investment you’re making in a healthier-looking you. Here are answers to a few more questions frequently asked at our medspa about CoolSculpting and other treatments.
What is the time commitment for CoolSculpting and other procedures?
A typical CoolSculpting appointment lasts 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the target area. Most patients are satisfied with their results after only a few sessions. The Skin Clinic uses the CoolSculpting Elite system, so you can save time if you have more than one target area by having them treated two at a time.
Other fat-reduction treatments and body-sculpting methods will require varying levels of commitment. For example, CoolTone treatments usually take one to two hours. They are effective for up to six months, although “tune-up” treatments during that time are available if needed. By contrast, the Whole Body CryoTherapy treatment only takes 2-3 minutes per session, but an initial round of 5-10 visits in your first month is recommended.
Will I have to buy a new wardrobe if I do CoolSculpting?
No – but you might be surprised how well some of your old clothes now fit! The amount of weight loss achieved by CoolSculpting is minimal, so changing an entire size (up or down) is unusual. However, your current clothes may fit differently because those stubborn pockets of fat that nothing seemed to touch are now GONE.
Will these treatments provide natural-looking results?
YES! The best part about CoolSculpting fat-reduction treatments and other health and beauty interventions available at The Skin Clinic is that they don’t involve highly invasive procedures leaving scars or with long recovery times. From the moment you leave our offices, you will look and feel like yourself. Our staff will discuss any post-procedure conditions to watch for and how to remedy any minor discomfort you may feel after a treatment.
After your recovery period, you will experience a better version of your natural self! Our treatments are designed to bring out the best in you, not to add anything artificial.
