5 Simple Skin Care Tips for Women

1. Eat a Healthy Diet and Drink Plenty of Water

What you eat has a direct impact on the health of your skin. Too much sugar in your diet can accelerate cellular aging and wrinkle formation. Foods that help protect your skin from aging and sun damage include:

  • Walnuts and salmon that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that fight wrinkle-causing inflammation
  • Spinach and citrus fruits to promote collagen production
  • Pink grapefruit and tomatoes to help protect against sun damage

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water each day to help keep your body and your skin hydrated.

2. Cleanse More Than Your Face

You already know that you should cleanse your face twice daily with a gentle cleanser. However, you should also be taking time each week to thoroughly clean your makeup brushes. Dead skin cells and make-up residue that remains on brush bristles can cause irritation to your skin. And then there’s your cellphone that can be covered with bacteria and sweat. Your phone should be cleaned frequently to prevent breakouts on your cheeks and jaw.

3. Gently Exfoliate

You do not need to exfoliate every day and there may be some areas on your face that do not require as much scrubbing as others. Too much exfoliation increases sensitivity to the sun’s UV rays. If you use a chemical exfoliant, only use it twice a week. If you use an exfoliant scrub, use one that has gentle microbeads that won’t irritate your skin.

4. Wear Sunscreen

It doesn’t matter if you are going to be inside for most of the day or outdoors the entire day; you must wear sunscreen. It is one of the most important things you can do to protect your skin from aging and skin cancer.

5. Don’t Forget Your Sunglasses

Wearing sunglasses helps protect your eye health. But besides protecting your eyes from UV rays, sunglasses help keep your skin looking younger. They stop you from squinting in the bright sun, which means fewer crow’s feet and fine lines.
